Different measurement concepts

Resolution describes the increment a display or record can distinguish. Repeatability concerns agreement between measurements under the same conditions; accuracy concerns agreement with a reference. Zero adjustment, tare and calibration serve different purposes. Tare subtracts container weight; the correctness of the measurement chain still needs assessment with a suitable reference and procedure.

Example: identical display, different loading

An illustrative platform may give a stable result for a central test load but a different reading when that load moves to a corner. Recording only the centre test hides the issue. An acceptance plan should address load position, increasing and decreasing loads, return to unloaded state and environmental effects. This example states neither an accuracy class nor a measured SOPON performance result.

Recorded data and application limits

Keep net, gross, tare, unit, stability status and timestamp distinct in recorded data. Test acceptance of unstable readings, use of stale weight after communication failure and unit conversion. A process-monitoring scale and a scale used for commercial settlement may have different requirements. Applicable inspection, verification and legal obligations require assessment for the installation’s location and intended use.
